Donating securities that have gained value while you’ve owned them is almost always smarter than contributing cash.
If you don’t give away the stock, sooner or later you’ll sell it, and your profit on the sale will be taxed.
But if you’ve owned those securities for more than a year and give them to a charitable organization, neither you nor the philanthropy owes capital gains taxes when the securities are sold.
You get to contribute more than if you’d sold your holding, paid the tax and donated the cash that remained. To get a clearer sense of how this works, you can discuss it with your Financial Advisor.
Donors can help secure the long-term financial health of Storyteller through gifts that come to the school in the future or over a period of years. Please contact Jeremiah Gloria, Senior Development Coordinator - , 805.682.9585 ext. 303
If you or your spouse are affiliated with an organization that will match gifts, please forward the matching gift form (obtained from the organization’s personnel office) along with your gift to Storyteller Children’s Center. If making your gift online, please mail the matching gift form (including your name, address, date and amount of gift) to Storyteller Children’s Center at 2115 State Street, Santa Barbara, CA 93105.
